It’s Not Our Responsibility to Teach CRPF Men ‘How to Walk’: Chhattisgarh DGP

Following killing of CRPF jawans by Maoists in Chhattisgarh, a war of words have started between state police and central authorities, said media reports.

Responding to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram’s suggestion that state government should redeploy CRPF in Naxal-affected regions, stated DGP retaliated by saying that   CRPF was not the state’s responsibility to teach the CRPF men ‘how to walk’, said reports.

“If CRPF is being repeatedly being ambushed, are we to answer for that? What does responsibility mean? Responsibility means making available whatever facilities possible. Responsibility means we together deploy the forces. Responsibility does not mean we will teach them how to walk,” DGP Vishwa Ranjan was quoted as saying.

Yesterday, Chidambaram had called for ‘relocation and reconfiguration’ of paramilitary forces in Chhattisgarh.

Observing that some of the CRPF forces were not operationally viable, the Home Minister had said, “These deployments have been made in 2007 and 2008. So, I have asked the Chhattisgarh government to examine the deployments in 2010.”
