Five lakh children have been vaccinated in Ujjain Division

BHOPAL: In ongoing round of measles immunization in six districts of Ujjain Division which started on December 12, 2011, more then five lakh children have been vaccinated till date.

Target is to reach out to 18 lakh children in the division. This is a three week campaign which targets children in age group of 9 months to 10 years. The districts covered in this are Ujjain, Ratlam, Mandsaur, Shahjanpur, Dewas, and Neemuch.

This measles immunization special round is being conducted as per Government of India guidelines where in 14 states which had measles coverage of less then 80 percent were earmarked.

In Madhya Pradesh five districts were covered for this second dose of measles immunization in the year 2010, while seven districts were covered in September round, and now six districts in the Ujjain division are being covered.

This special second dose round is being conducted by Department of Health & Family Welfare in partnership with Department of School Education, Department of Women and Child Development, UNICEF and NPSP – WHO.

In order to reach out to people and make the aware sms round In order to reach out to parents thousands of SMS are being sent in each district every day covering all major telephone operators in the district. SMS message sent by District Health Society with support from UNICEF carries message in Hindi which says ‘special measles immunization round is being conducted in your district from September 19 till October 8, 2011.

In case you have a child in age group between 9 months till 10 years please take them to the nearest vaccination booth to get the child vaccinated’. In addition TV scrolls, letters to PRI, and frontline workers are being send to help reach out to all children in the target age. Media workshops were done at divisional level and districts so that right message reaches out to people.
