EVMs used for first ime in election of 25 sarpanchas in 15 districts

Bhopal: For the first time, EVMs were used in election of saranchas in the state on July 28. As many as 25 sarpanchs in 15 districts were elected during Panchayat By-elections-2014 (First Half). Polling percentage was about 65. State Election Commissioner Shri R. Parasuram has congratulated concerning district election officers and other officers and employees for successful use of EVMs in Panchayat elections.
Secretary State Election Commission Shri G.P. Shrivastava informed that one sarpanch each was elected through EVMs in Shivpuri, Datia, Ujjain, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Dewas, Rajgarh, Katni and Narsinghpur districts, 2 each in Shahdol, Dhar and Barwani district, 4 in Panna district and 3 each in Chhindwara and Mandla districts. Officers from Bhopal were sent by the commission to observe electoral process in various districts.
Meanwhile, 24 sarpanchas in 16 districts were elected unopposed in by-elections. No nominations were received for 11 sarpanchas posts in 7 districts. By-elections were to be held for 60 posts.
