Ensure fire safety audit within a month: CM

Bhopal: Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan sought information regarding fire in a portion of Vindhyachal Bhavan, at a high-level meeting here today. The Chief Minister also sought information about fire-fighting arrangements in Vindhyachal Bhavan and other buildings and also reviewed them. He directed that fire safety audit of Vallabh Bhavan, Satpura Bhavan and Vindhyachal Bhavan should be undertaken. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan directed that electricity cables and wiring of these buildings should be inspected minutely.

Chief Secretary Shri Anthony de Sa, DGP Shri Nandan Dube, Additional Chief Secretary Panchayats, Rural Development & Social Justice Smt. Aruna Sharma, Principal Secretaries of Urban Administration & Development and Housing & Environment department and concerning officers of Capital Project attended the meeting.
At the meeting, Chief Minister Shri Chouhan was apprised of the factual position of the incident occurred in a portion of Vindhyachal Bhavan. Forensic team of the police has completed scientific and technical inspection in which it was found that fire in portion of the building was caused by short circuit. Area of Vindhyachal Bhavan is 3 lakh square feet. The area which caught fire is 2700 square feet, which is less than 1 percent of the building’s total area. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan was informed that 60 percent of the files affected by fire were found safe on the day of fire incident. Work is underway on the second day today and 90 percent service books have been found safe. Details about others are saved in computers. Those files affected by fire will be re-constructed. Documents concerning Mid-day Meal Scheme and other schemes are not among the documents destroyed by fire.
