CM to receive “Krishi Karman Award” in New Delhi today

Bhopal: Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan will receive Krishi Karman Award being conferred by Government of India to Madhya Pradesh for second time in New Delhi on February 10, 2014. The award is being given to Madhya Pradesh for consecutively second year for policy-related efforts for excellent implementation of farmers’ schemes apart from evaluation of states’ agriculture production. President Shri Pranab Mukherjee will confer the award.

It is noteworthy that a well planned strategy is being implemented in Madhya Pradesh for increasing production and productivity of crops. For this, corrective steps have been ensured in every component of farming and at every stage. Food grains production has increased remarkably during the last 5 years. It was 128.90 lakh MT in year 2007-08, which increased to 287.35 lakh MT in year 2012-13. It is 25.11 percent more as compared to food grains production in year 2011-12.

Wheat has played the most important role in food grains production’s increase. During year 2007-08, production of wheat was 67.73 lakh MT, which increased to 161.25 lakh MT in year 2012-13. With this, Madhya Pradesh reached the 3rd position after Uttar Pradesh and Punjab though state’s target is to outdo Punjab. The massive rise in wheat production manifested itself when over 85 lakh MT wheat was procured on support price while arrival at Mandi committees was to the tune of 120.09 lakh MT. This was 10.87 percent more than that of year 2011-12.
