CM seeks support to beat malnutrition in Chhattisgarh

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has urged all MPs, MLAs, Mayors, Chairmen of civic bodies and Panchayat representatives in the state to make the month-long ‘Malnutrition Free Chhattisgarh’ campaign that began on Tuesday a success.

Across the state, the ‘National Nutrition Month’ is being held from September 1 to 30. The key is creating awareness among communities on nutrition, behaviour changes, identification of Severely Acute Malnourished (SAM) children and providing adequate treatment and nutritional support.

The Chief Minister said the MLAs have been active in trying to end the malnutrition and anemia among children. At the state level, a ‘Nutrition Month’ was organized. He sought the active support and coordination of everyone in the current drive too.

Baghel said malnutrition and anemia among children is a critical problem. He said that due to Covid-19 pandemic, apart from the other mediums, mass movement through digital format will be organized.

The promotion of breast feeding up to six months and giving additional nutrition after that is to be promoted. Baghel called for more use of vegetables, growing fruit bearing plants in backyard and community gardens as well as open lands and promoting kitchen gardens.
