CM holds meeting over missing girls

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan held a discussion with Home Minister Narottam Mishra, Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains and Director General of Police Vivek Johri in connection with girls missing from the State, at a high-level meeting in Mantralaya.

Regarding missing girls, Chouhan said that the police should increase the number of recoveries of girls in such cases. He congratulated the police for the decline in the number of crimes against women in the last few months.

It may be noted that crimes against women have reduced by half in the last eight months. Chouhan said that the launching of women’s awareness campaign for the safety and honour of women is commendable.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Chouhan said that serious action requires to be taken in the case of the missing girls.

This is why today’s special meeting has been called. The Chief Minister said that the disappearance of girls is a matter of concern. He said that recovering lost girls should be a priority. The Chief Minister said that such a system should be made so that a complete record of the girl going out of the district for work, employment etc., is maintained so that they can file a complaint. Only then can this be stopped.

The Chief Minister said that there should be such a system that registration should be mandatory for those who go out of the district for work.

Chouhan said that the number of missing girls being double compared to missing boys is a clear indication that the disappearance of girls is not normal.

Director General of Police Vivek Johri said that the main reasons behind the disappearance of girls or women in the urban areas include their leaving the house without informing anyone or getting angry and running away or eloping with boyfriend. In rural areas, people migrate in search for employment. In this, the action by the Labour Department becomes necessary. A record should be maintained of where and what work the contractor is taking from them.

The Chief Minister also asked to make a proposal to merge different types of helplines. At present, Umang app and helpline 1090 is operating in the state. The helpline number of the Government of India is 1098.

Officer on Special Duty CM Office Makarand Deuskar, Additional Chief Secretary Home Rajesh Rajaura, Principal Secretary Women and Child Development Ashok Shah and other officers were also present in the meeting.
