Chouhan Seeks Permission to Sagar Medical College

Calling on Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Gulam Nabi Azad, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has requested him to give permission of admission in medical colleges in MBBS course as per the prescribed norms laid down by the Medical Council of India, said an official release.

He said that the MCI has prescribed norms for admission capacity of 50, 100, or 150 admissions in MBBS course and the four medical colleges at Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur fulfill all the norms for 150 under graduate admissions and medical college Rewa fulfills all the norms for 100 undergraduate admissions.

He said that there are six medical colleges in the state. Out of these 4 colleges are located at Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur and are admitting 140 students each while Rewa Medical College is admitting 60 students and newly opened medical college at Sagar is admitting 100 students in MBBS course every year.

The Chief Minister requested for immediate intervention for granting permission for admission of the 2nd batch of students in Bundelkhand Medical College, Sagar, for the academic session 2010-2011.

He informed that the MCI has inspected the college recently and found deficiency in staff. The deficiency was found to be less than 10 per cent.

Chouhan said that Bundelkhand Medical College, Sagar is the only Medical College opened in the year 2009-2010 in Bundelkhand region.

He said that all the infrastructure norms have already been fulfilled and staff deficiencies minimized and efforts are on to overcome the deficiency by September 2010.

The chief minister requested the Union Minister to intervene in granting permission for admission of the 2nd batch of students in Bundelkhand MedicalCollege, Sagar for the academic year 2010-2011.

He said that the state is facing tremendous shortage of medical doctors which is the major constraint in providing adequate health services, especially in rural areas and government is taking many initiatives in this regard.

Chouhan said that 5000 postgraduate seats have been increased this year in the country but Madhya Pradesh did not get even one seat.

Azad assured Chouhan to take immediate action in this regard
