CM seeks extension of ‘PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana’

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to extend the ‘Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana’ for three more months till September 2020.

Citing the crisis caused by Covid-19, the Chief Minister said in a letter to the Prime Minister that the Central government’s scheme has helped ensure availability of food grains in the country.

In Chhattisgarh, besides the 51.50 lakh ration card beneficiary families identified under the National Food Security Act and Universal PDS, the state government is providing food security to 14.10 lakh additional ration card holding families under various schemes.

These 14.10 lakh ration cards should also be covered by the PM food scheme, Baghel said.

The Chief Minister said that with the lockdown being gradually lifted, the situation is extremely difficult for farmers, farm labourers, construction and industrial workers as well as for most common people.

He requested that the food scheme should be extended till September to bring relief to the crisis-affected families. Free distribution of food grains will not only provide food security but give a positive message to the common people.
