Cabinet Approves Hike in Junior Doctors’ Honorarium

Bhopal  —  Keeping a promise made to striking junior doctors in July the state cabinet on Tuesday accorded its approval to an increase in the honorarium paid to junior doctors in the state.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the cabinet chaired by  Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

As per the decision, an interne will now be paid an honorarium of Rs. 5000 instead of Rs. 3000, P.G. first year student Rs. 22,000 instead of Rs. 16,000, P.G. second year student Rs. 23,000 in place of Rs. 16,500, P.G. third year student Rs. 24,000 instead of Rs. 17,000 and a D.M. or M.Ch. Rs. 25,000 in place of Rs. 19,000, a senior resident Rs. 24,000 in place of Rs. 17,000 and a junior resident will now get an increased honorarium of Rs. 21,000 in place of Rs. 15,000.

The decision will entail an annual additional burden of Rs. 12 crore 86 lakh on the government exchequer.
