Bhopal will observe the 2011 as Traffic Year

BHOPAL: Umashankar Gupta while inaugurating a traffic exhibition at New Market here during the Road Safety Week said Large of number of people are meeting with accidents every year in the country due to violation of and lack of knowledge about traffic rules. Hundreds of people also die in mishaps.

These accidents can be prevented to a great extend by following the traffic rules. These views were expressed by Home Minister Shri. Lauding a large number school students present on the occasion, Shri Gupta said that they became instrumental in bringing about traffic-related awareness among their family members and neighbourers. Those also present on the occasion included IG Bhopal Zone Shri Shailendra Shrivastava and Senior Superintendent of Police Shri Adarsh Katiyar.

Also the Home Minister gave away prizes to the schoolchildren who secured various positions in the painting contest organised by the Bhopal traffic police. He also had a word of praise for the paintings made by the children on the theme of traffic and its rules. This painting contest was organised in December with a view to bringing about traffic-related awareness among schoolchildren. The first prize in the senior category was given to Kumari Rashmi Batham of Kopal Higher Secondary School, Bhopal, second prize to Kumari Ishita of Saint Teresa Convent School, Bhopal and third prize was given to Shri Sanil Modi of St Mary Convent School, Bhopal. The top three prizes in the debate competition went to Shri Saurabh Gupta and Kumari Vaibhavi, Kumari Amrita Mehra and Kumari Bhavna Malviya.

A group of school children earlier took out an awareness rally in the city under the aegis of Bhopal traffic police and gave a message about observing traffic rules to drivers, riders and citizens. All the children carried placards in their hands carrying messages for creating traffic-related awareness. Citizens praised the effort put in by the children. On this occasion, Bhopal SP Shri Yogesh Choudhary, Additional SP Sushri Monica Shukla and large number of traffic policemen, distinguished citizens and public representatives.
