Bauddha University is just a step away

Bhopal. Foundation stone of Bauddha University will be laid at Sanchi on September 21. This information was given at a meeting of scholars chaired by Culture Minister Shri Laxmikant Sharma at Swaraj Bhavan here today. It was also informed that international conference of dharm-dhama will also be held on September 21, 22 and 23. The conference will be attended by Buddhist thinkers, scholars and political leaders of various countries.

Besides Indian scholars, Shri Isroomath Gulankulname of Mahabodhi Society Sri Lanka and former Director of Institute of Human Resources Advancement of Colombo University Dr. Kumar Hirimb Vurgama also participated in the meeting. Shri ADN Vajpayee from Shimla, Shri Mohanlal Chheepa from Jaipur, Dr. Kapil Kapoor from Delhi, Dr. Vinay Sahastrabuddhe from Rambhau Prabodhini, Mubai, Principal Secretary Culture Shri Vinod Semwal and other officers were present at the meeting.

Culture Minister Shri Sharma said that draft of the Bill regarding the university will have to be prepared soon. It will be passed in the Vidhan Sabha and enacted before September 21. Mahatma Buddha’s views and teachings were spread in the world from India. Proposed Bauddha University will conduct studies and researches on Buddhist views and philosophy in the world as well as disseminate knowledge with this in view.

It was informed at the meeting that scholars from all over the world will participate in the conference. An organising committee has been constituted for it which comprises Poojay Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati, Poojya Swami Dayanand Saraswati, Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Culture Minister Shri Laxmikant Sharma, Director of International Academy of Indian Culture Dr. Lokesh Chandra, Ven. Banagla Upatisa Nayaka Thero of Mahobodhi Society, Colombo, Sri Lanka, Swami Mitranand Chinmay Mission, Chennai, Dr. David Forwelle, Santa Fee of New Mexico, USA and Shri Lama Lobsing of Ashoka Mission, New Delhi.

It was informed at the meeting that over 150 papers have been received for the conference. The Culture Department threw light on the preparations being made by it for establishment of Bauddha University and international conference.

On the occasion, an art calendar based on cultural activities of the department during the year 2012-13 was also released.
