Bastar marching on devpt path: Baghel

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday said Naxalite activities in Bastar region are now confined to Bijapur and Narayanpur, testifying that a major change has taken place in the lives of tribals.

Talking to a private news channel, the Chief Minister said development, trust and security were the three focal points on which the Chhattisgarh government had worked and brought a major change in the lives of tribals of Bastar.

The people of Bastar are now fed up with Naxalite violence and want development, he said.

Special emphasis has been given in Bastar to health, education, employment and other welfare schemes.

More than 40 percent of the Bastar population was earlier hit by malaria. This has now drastically fallen to 4 percent due to government efforts, he said.

Similarly, the efforts of the Chhattisgarh government to combat malnutrition was paying results. Even Niti Aayog had praised the Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan, Baghel said.

He said that till 2018 only one or two tractors were sold every year. This number has shot up to 400 tractors a year.

Likewise, the sale of motorcycles has shot up in Bijapur from 15-16 a year to 5,000, Baghel said.

Schools which were closed due to Maoist terror were now open, he added.
