Bhopal: Ancient Shiv Mandir and two stepwells of archaeological importance near Jain Mandir at village Samasgarh in Huzoor tahsil of Bhopal district have been declared as state-protected monuments. Culture Minister Laxmikant Sharma has approved issuance of final notification to this effect.

This ancient Shiv Mandir is situated 15 kilometers away from Bhopal beyond Bhadbhada on the roads towards Sehore. Declaration of protected monument has been under the provisions of Madhya Pradesh Ancient Monuments, Archaeological Sites and Remains Act 1964.

The Dwar Shakha, Lalaat Bimb, Mandap Shikhar and several decrepit archaeological blocks are there in the Shiv temple. The idols possibly date back to 11th century AD. Nearby the decrepit Shivalaya, there exists an ancient 15×22 step well, which still holds water.
