Alert sounded as Bird Flu hits chattisgarh village

Bhopal: Following reports of outbreak of bird flu in neighbouring Chhattisgarh, the State Government on Wednesday sounded an alert in all districts of the State, directing the district officials to be vigilant and asked to ensure action in time to control the Avian influenza virus.
The Government also directed to all the Deputy Directors of the State Veterinary department to prevent and control the dreaded disease and advised them to take immediate action if there was any report about unnatural death of birds of fowls and they be sent samples for test.
The Government also told departments and officials concerned to keep a watch in wetland areas and send samples of migratory birds as well as backward poultry in villages near reservoirs.
It further asked districts officials to examine symptoms of disease in poultry brought for sale to chicken markets or haat bazaars. They have been asked to undertake regular inspections of all poultry farms and ensure compliance of bio-security norms.
Districts have been asked to assess requirement of kits, appliances, medicine stock, JCB machines, fogging and suction machines etc to tackle emergency situations and ensure all preparations for this. It has been directed to initiate necessary steps to apprise poultry breeders of measures to prevent and control bird flu.
Directives have been given to coordinate these efforts so that situation in any emergency can be brought under control immediately. Directives have also been given to keep a watch over movement of poultry and poultry products in districts bordering Chhattisgarh State.
It may be mentioned that an alert had been sounded in Chhattisgarh after the outbreak of bird flu in a poultry farm at Anjora village of Rajnandgaon district by the Health department of the State.
“Health department on Saturday sounded an alert in the State following the outbreak of bird flu in Anjora,” Minister of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Chandra Shekhar Sahu had said.
