99 percent e-payment in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: As many as 99 percent government payments are being made electronically in Madhya Pradesh, which is pioneer in the use of information technology in governance and public services delivery. Side by side e-payment, Madhya Pradesh has also made considerable progress in e-transactions. The Central Government has placed Madhya Pradesh next only to Gujarat in Electronic Aggregation and Analyser Layer (e-TAAL) portal launched to assess e-transactions in the country.
So far, 5 crore 90 lakh electronic transactions have been made through e-transaction system launched in the state in year 2009. Database of about 5 lakh employees is being maintained in Madhya Pradesh. All payments to government servants in the state are being made electronically apart from 75 lakh vendors including contractors, suppliers and non-government persons. So far, 13 lakh 75 thousand 594 cheques have been paid electronically, which is 99 percent of total payments. Through them, payment of Rs. 40 thousand crore has been made.
All four banks associated with government treasuries – State Bank of India, Union Bank, Central Bank and Allahabad Bank are making e-payments. All treasuries and sub-treasuries are also making e-payments. Madhya Pradesh has been conferred SKOCH Award for outstanding e-payment work\s.
Work becomes easier
Every sort of problem has ended and work has become easier with introduction of e-payment facility. Earlier, drawing and disbursing officers used to obtain cheques from treasury officer and send the same with attached lists to banks on basis of which payment was made. Now, e-payment is made in concerning bank account and information about it is given through SMS.
Cyber treasury
It is noteworthy that popularity of cyber treasury in Madhya Pradesh has increased rapidly. In year 2007, when it was launched, only Rs. 16 crore was deposited through 24 thousand 477 transactions. Now the number of transactions has gone upto 25 lakh 77 thousand 903 in year 2013-14 through which an amount of Rs. 14 thousand 233 crore was deposited.
Online real time deposit facility
Online real time deposit facility has been provided in the state. With this the challan number of cyber treasury is made instantly available to those depositing government tax or fee online. They are not required to wait for two days for confirmation. The depositor can have a print of treasury challan number and challan sitting at home. The print out can be submitted as challan to concerning departmental officer immediately. Besides, the depositor gets the prescribed service within no time. The most important feature of this facility is that cyber treasury has been linked to common e-challan. Following this public facilitation centres like MPOnline kiosk can be linked to cyber treasury.
