83 Prisoners Test HIV Positive in 24 MP Jails

In HIV tests conducted over prisoners and undertrials in 24 jail across state, a total of 83 inmates have tested positive, said PTI quoting officials.

Officials said that out of 120 jails in the state, the HIV test was conducted on inmates of 24 jails in last six months.

They said that maximum victims of AIDS were from Bhopal Central Jail, 61. The tests began six months ago are still on.

Bhopal was followed by Indore which had seven such prisoners and undertrials, three in Sehore sub-jails, two each in Ujjain Central jail, Multai and Neemuch and one each in Rewa, Chhindwara, Mandla, Gwalior, Sagar and Jabalpur.

Tests were conducted on blood samples of 998 inmates of which 864 were undertrials and 134 were convicts, they said.
