82 Labs for ensuring clean drinking water

Bhopal. As many as 82 block-level labs have been set up for ensuring supply of clean drinking water in rural areas of Madhya Pradesh. Work is in progress to set up 22 more labs. District-level water testing labs are already being conducted in all the 50 districts of the state. Besides, a mobile lab is also operating to test water quality in remote rural areas.

The Union Drinking Water and Sanitation Ministry is running a national-level programme for supply of clean drinking water. Under the programme, field works of Gram Panchayats have also been trained to test water quality. Water testing kits and vials for micro organism testing have been made available to all the Panchayats in the state. About 7.75 lakh water samples were tested with the help of these kits last year.
