4000 ASHA workers to be recruited for urban localities

Bhopal: National Health Mission has given administrative sanction of Rs. 43 crore for urban health programmes this year in the state under which 4000 ASHA workers will be recruited. A meeting chaired by Principal Secretary Health Shri Praveer Krishna at the mission office discussed schemes for expanding health programmes in the state here today. Priority will be given to control maternal and infant diseases in urban slums.

Now, initiative has been taken in the state to provide health facilities to larger section of population in urban slums. Accordingly, 4000 ASHA workers will be appointed in these urban areas. Besides, 87 doctors will also be appointed. Appointments will be made through MP Online.

Mohalla Arogya Samitis: As per sanction received from the Central Government, urban primary health centre will be opened on 50 thousand population, urban community health centres on 5 lakh population and Mohalla Arogya Samitis will be constituted on every 500 population in cities.

GIS mapping: GIS mapping of slums will also be undertaken while expanding health services in urban areas. Every ASHA worker will have responsibility to look after 200 to 500 families. Along with vaccination, all other necessary facilities will be provided to slum dwellers. Community health centres will be set up at all divisional headquarters and 100-bed hospitals at 7 divisional headquarters.

Health camps: A health camp will held every month compulsorily in urban slums. Mahila Arogya Samitis will also be formed.

City health plan: It was informed at the meeting that city health plans will be constituted to connect community with health security and awareness. Citizens’ participation will be increased and cooperation of Women and Child Development Department will also be sought.
