Damage should be assessed with sensitivity: Governor Lalji Tandon

The inter-ministerial central team on a visit to the state for the assessment of crop damage caused by excessive rainfall in the state called on the Governor Lalji Tandon at Raj Bhavan today. The Governor asked the team to study the damage caused with sensitivity towards the farmers and poor hit by excess rainfall in the state. The damage should be assessed with a liberal and practical approach. He said that there are reports of loss of soybean and other crops due to excessive rainfall in the state. He said that soybean crop is produced in a large area of ​​the state. Soybean crop has suffered a lot due to excess rainfall. The Governor said that soybean has a major contribution in the state’s agricultural economy. Crop loss will have a very adverse effect on the rural economy.
Governor Tandon said that reports of damage to other crops like moong, urad, cotton etc. have also been received. He expected the central team to provide appropriate relief to the people affected due to crop damage. The central government should provide maximum disaster relief. The central team should take positive initiative in this direction.
The state government sumitted a memorandum to the Governor regarding the damage caused by excess rainfall. Principal Secretary Revenue Manish Rastogi, Secretary to the Governor Manohar Dubey and members of the central team were present in the meeting.
