Woman Gunned down by Militants in Shopian

Unidentified militants shot dead a 20-year old woman in front of her family South Kashmir’s Shopian district, said police.

According to reports, the armed militants broke into victim’s house in Hergam-Kellar, some 70 kms from here, at around 8.30 pm on Tuesday night and after identifying the woman, Sheeraza Akhtar, shot her in the abdomen and chin. She was a divorcee.

Superintendent of Police, Shopian, Shahid Mehraj said that the motive behind the killing was being ascertained.

Five women have been killed by militants in the valley since June this year.
