US National Detained at Airport after Knife Found in Baggage

After a knife was found in his hand baggage during the security check, a US national, who was leaving for Doha, was detained at the Indira Gandhi International airport in New Delhi, reported PTI.

According to report, Winston Marshal Carmichael, the US national, was detained late last night when CISF personnel found a knife in his hand baggage during the security check while he was leaving for Doha in a Qatar Airways flight.

Report said that Carmichael is a convert from Christianity to Islam. A native of New York, Carmichael converted some 40 years ago, said report.

Security agencies are interrogating him and the American Mission has been informed about the same, said report citing sources.

Carmichael had arrived in India for the first time a fortnight ago on a tourist visa and travelled to various parts of the national capital, report said.

Report said that Carmichael, who has a tourist visa to India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, came here from Pakistan.

He had visited Pakistan and Bangladesh on earlier occasions also.

Delhi Police Special Cell and IB is questioning him. According to airport sources, during the security check CISF found the knife concealed between herbal plant ‘Shilajit’.

He was then handed over to the police.
