Sukhram received bail

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court granted bail to the former telecom minister Sukhram who has been sentenced to five years in jail in the 1996 telecom scam.

The Court granted him bail on a surety of of Rs 10 lakh and on the condition that he cannot leave the country during this period.

The former minister had challenged his conviction and sentencing by a trial court for taking bribe to award a contract to a telecom firm in 1996.

Sukhram, who had held the telecom portfolio in PV Narasimha Rao’s Cabinet, was earlier this month convicted in a cable contract case.

By a special CBI court, he was sent to Tihar Jail after he was sentenced for five years.
