During swearing-in in Maharashtra Assembly, MNS MLAs created uproar when SP MLA Abu Asim Azmi, ignoring their call for all legislators to take pledge in Marathi, took oath in Hindi with one of MNS legislator even going to the extent to slapping Azmi.
No soon than Azmi started taking oath in Hindi, the 13 member MNS rushed towards him, snatched the mike from him and one of them even manhandled him.
Perturbed MNS members shouted slogans, insisting that Azmi should take oath in Marathi.
Consequently the House deferred for 30 minutes as the ruckus continued and soon after that MNS MLA Ram Kadam slapped Azmi.
Seeing scenes getting unpleasant, chief minister Ashok Chavan and Energy Minister Ajit Pawar tried to restore calm in the House.
It may be mentioned that MNS Chief Raj Thackeray had last month announced that his party legislators would ensure that all MLAs took oath in Marathi.
“If any MLA does not take oath in Marathi, the House will see what happens,” Raj had threatened.
