Food grains at subsidised rates to 4.90 crore people in state

Bhopal: So far, 4 crore 90 lakh persons have been brought under the ambit of targeted public distribution system under Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana in the state. Eligible persons under the scheme are being provided wheat and rice at the rate of Re. one per kg since July 1. Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana in accordance with National Food Security Act-2013 was implemented in the state on March 1, 2014. This scheme to provide subsidised food grains to people is being expanded constantly.
The Act provides supply of wheat at the rate of Rs. 2 per kg and rice at Rs. 3 per kg to eligible persons. On the contrary, wheat and rice are being provided at the rate of Re. one per kg under Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana which covers Antyodaya Anna Yojana and priority families. Antyodaya Anna Yojana families are provided 35 kg food grains per family per month and priority families 5 kg per person per month.

State-wide Food Security Festival was observed in the state in June 2014 to bring under left out eligible families under the ambit of Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana. Door-to-door survey was conducted to include their names. Before Food Security Festival, 75 lakh families were being provided wheat and rice at the rate of Re. one per kg, which increased to one crore 10 lakh families after it.

On the initiative of Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, priority families of 24 categories have been included under the scheme. Some of the categories are those whose Panchayat has been held at CM House including hair-dressers, domestic women helps, street vendors, cycle rickshaw pullers, members of Fishermen’s Welfare Societies etc.

SC and ST families have also been included in priority families. Application forms of SC and ST families were filled up door-to-door during Food Security Festival.

Apart from wheat and rice, one kg iodised salt at the rate of Re. one per kg. 4 litre kerosene and one kg sugar are also being provided under Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana.
