Results of By-Elections

NEW DELHI: The results of by-elections held in different states have been declared on Wednesday. In a significant upsets, congress is able to win in the strongholds of BJP Karnataka and Gujarat.

In Karnataka they won the Lok Sabha seat while in Gujrat an assembly seat is bagged by congress. But they lost all the seats in Andhra due to Telangana factor.

In Karnataka, Udupi Chikmagalur seat which was held by BJP since 1998 was comfortably snatched by congress 45,724 votes. The Mansa Assembly seat, held by BJP since 1995, in Narendra Modi-dominated Gujarat was also won by congress.

The assembly polls are due in the next year in both Gujarat and Karnataka and the results of by-elections can have significant impact on that. With the win in LS seat the strength of congress in the house goes up to 207.

In Andhra congress is routed and is defeated in all 7 assembly seats. Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) showed its dominance in Telangana region winning four seats and helping an Independent bag the fifth.While BJP won one seat in the region. One seat is won by YSR congress.

In Tamil Nadu, the ruling AIADMK retained the Sankarankoil Assembly seatand the BJD the Athgarh seat in Odisha. In Kerala, The congress led UDF front won the Piravom Assembly seat.
