Rathore Charged with Abetment of Suicide, to Be Arrested Anytime Soon
In a fresh case registered on Tuesday against former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore, the cop has been charged with abetting the suicide of Ruchika Girhotra three years after molesting her and is likely to be arrested anytime now, said police.
Police officials said that the fresh FIR charges Rathore under section 306 of the IPC for abetting the suicide of Ruchika in 1993, three years after he had molested her.
The FIR was filed after a fresh complaint last week by Ruchika’s brother Ashu seeking that Rathore is booked for abetment of suicide of his sister.
The 14-year-old Ruchika, who was molested by Rathore on August 1990, had committed suicide on December 18, 1993 by consuming poisonous insecticide.
The disgraced former Haryana DGP has been accused of torturing Ruchika’s brother by getting false cases of car theft slapped on him, inflicting third-degree torture on him in police custody and harassing the Girhotra family between 1990 and 1993.
All this reportedly led to Ruchika finally committing suicide in December 1993.
Rathore was last week booked by the Panchkula police in two different cases, charging him of attempt to murder, forging and tampering with evidence of Ruchika’s death, criminal conspiracy and wrongful confinement. Most of the charges slapped against him in both FIRs are non-bailable ones.
The complaints for the two FIRs were made by Ruchika’s father SC Girhotra and brother Ashu.
