Protest Turns Violent in Ghaziabad on Eviction Notice

In a protest on the National Highway number 24 in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, violence erupted between the police and mob.

The was demonstrating against a government eviction notice from an unauthorized colony.

The perturbed demonstrators obstructed the busy highway and set ablaze a bus in the Vijay Nagar area of Ghaziabad.

According to media reports, protestors allegedly took to pelting stones as police tried to clear the highway. Police then used lathicharge and also fire in the air.

Two days ago, notices were issued to these people to evict the governmetn land, failing which their illegal construction was to be demolished.

Protests had actually started soon after receiving the notices but went violent on Saturday.

The mob set 12 vehicles on fire including two trucks, three buses and other small vehicles.

The Tijarti cut-Hindon bridge has been closed and PAC has been deployed in the area.
