Nation Urban Health Mission should also be there: CM

BHOPAL (MPINFO): Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged Union Health & Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to grant early clearance to the proposal of opening 10 nursing schools in the state. Besides, Chouhan has also written about constitution of a Nation Urban Health Mission on the lines of National Rural Health Mission, seeking cooperation in making available super specialty facility in the state’s hospitals, inclusion of all the districts of the state in the Non-infectious Disease Control Programme and allocate 3 percent of the GDP in the health sector under 12th five-year Plan.

In his letter, the Chief Minister has said that Union Government had granted permission to Madhya Pradesh to open 10 GNM (General Nursing and Maternity) Nursing Schools under the 11th Five-Year Plan. He has also referred to a letter written by him earlier on January 18, 2012 in this connection with which proposal for opening nursing schools at Vidisha, Raisen, Jhabua, Mandsaur, Sidhi, Rajgarh, Narsinghpur, Dewas, Seoni and Satna was also enclosed. He urged the Union Minister for an early approval of the proposal.

In his letter, Chouhan has written that there is need for change in the health sector during the 12th Five-Year Plan. Stressing the need of Urban Health Mission, CM said that it should be set up on the lines of National Rural Health Mission. The Chief Minister also urged the Union Health Ministry to extend cooperation in up gradation of urban hospitals in the state and super specialty facility over there. He said that only few districts of the state have been covered under the scheme for controlling non-infectious diseases. There is need to expand it to all the districts of the state.

CM has further said in his letter that only one percent of GDP was allocated for health services during the 11th Five-Year Plan.
