Nitish Urges PM to Clear Bihar Corruption Bill Soon

A day after Prime Minister’s advice not to let “big fish” go scot-free for corruption, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has urged the PM to ensure early approval of a Bihar bill for dealing with corrupt public servants.

Kumar asserted that it is time that the Centre accelerated steps to weed out corruption from the rotted system and insisted that Prime Minister must intervene to make sure that the anti corruption bill already passed by both Houses of Bihar legislature is cleared by the centre, too.

Yesterday, while addressing a CBI and state anti-corruption Bureaux conference, Singh has urged officials to aggressively pursue “high level corruption” saying the perception that “big fish” escape punishment must change and they should act swiftly and without fear.

It may be mentioned that Bihar’s bill providing for confiscation of assets of public servants amassed by them beyond their known sources of income, has been pending with the Centre for over five months.

Kumar said that he had raised the issue with Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily during their recent meeting.

“I can at least boast that Bihar is setting an example by drafting a bill to crackdown on corrupt officials,” the chief minister said.

“The state government has also planned speedy trial in cases related to corruption,” he added.
