Militants Blow up Railway Track in Kashmir

A section of railway track was blown up by separatist militants in Jammu and Kashmir, reported BBC citing police.

According to report, the militants detonated an improvised explosive device on tracks near Pulwama.

No train was running at the time when explosion occurred and there were no casualties, said report.

Following the blast, train services between Srinagar and Qazigund were suspended, report said.

The train service was started in the valley last year and it is for the first time that terrorists targeted it.

Railway officials said that track was expected to be restored by Friday afternoon, report said.

It may be mentioned that violence has ebbed in Kashmir in recent years, but there are fears the militants are now trying to regroup.

Hundreds of thousands of Indian troops are based in Indian-administered Kashmir to fight a two decade-old insurgency against Indian rule.
