Cong, BJP condemn killings by Maoists

The ruling Congress and the main opposition BJP on Tuesday condemned the killing of five security personnel in an IED blast triggered by Maoists at Kodenar in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district.

The dead included five District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel and a driver. As many as 13 security personnel were injured.

Pradesh Congress Committee Communication Department Chairman Shailesh Nitin Trivedi called it “the biggest sacrifice of the brave security personnel” in the fight against the Maoists and said there is no place for violence in a democracy.

“This act is cruel, inhumane and unacceptable. Today’s attack is a desperate attack, which will be replied appropriately,” he said. “Maoists cannot succeed with such violent incidents.”

Paying tributes to the dead, BJP state President Vishnudev Sai said Maoists executed the incident by diverting the attention of the state government after calling for negotiations.

Tuesday’s incident points towards intelligence failure, he said, adding the government has failed to formulate a clear policy against Maoists in Chhattisgarh.

Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik said the Maoists are shifting base from the forest to urban areas.
