Govt Will Make Defence Procurement More Transparent: Antony

For promotion of the Indian defence industry and bringing transparency in acquisitions, the government will roll out new defence procurement policy (DPP) on November 1, said Defence Minister AK Antony.

According to information, the reviewed DPP will also promote joint ventures between foreign original equipment manufactures (OEMs) and Indian companies.

“We are ready to promulgate DPP-2009 with effect from Nov 1,” Antony said at a seminar on defence acquisition.

The highlights of DPP 2009:

a)    Broad contours of the 15-year armed forces acquisition plan will be made public
b)    Requests for Information (RFIs) on all acquisitions will be displayed on the Defence Ministry’s website
c)    The role of independent monitors will be increaded to ensure probity in defence deals
