Kalmadi Hands over Rs 1 Cr to Hockey Players

Indian Olympic Association President Suresh Kalmadi has handed over Rs one crore to hockey players at the World Cup training camp in Pune, reported CNN-IBN.

Kalmadi and Hockey India adviser Anupam Gulati distributed the cheque with varied individual payments among all the 22 players and support staff, said report.

Kalmadi was also quoted as saying that he was yet to receive any letter of resignation by Hockey India President AK Mattoo.

Earlier, Mattoo had said that he was stepping down because of the rebellion by men’s national team hockey players over unpaid salaries and dues.

He claimed to have been ‘deeply hurt’ by the charges leveled against him during the recent crisis.

Mattoo also decided to resign from all the other administrative posts in various sport bodies. He was also the treasurer of the Indian Olympic Association and Commonwealth Games Organising Committee.

It is also believed that Mattoo had a rift with Kalmadi, after the latter intervened in the hockey players’ rebellion last week, said report.
