Class 11 student strangled to death by a college-goer in Delhi; Accused believed the boy was trying to woo his girlfriend

New Delhi: A class XI student was strangulated to death by a college-goer and his accomplices in posh Mehrauli in the southern end of Delhi. The accused reportedly believed the victim was trying to befriend his girlfriend. In their bid to make the case look like a ransom murder, the accused then also demanded Rs 20 lakh from victim’s parents.

Media reports said that the deceased, Jatin Goyal, reportedly wanted to befriend a girl, which did not go down well with her boyfriend, Navin Kumar (20), a first year BA student of Aryabhatta College. “Navin was earlier a student of Saraswati Bal Mandir in Mehrauli, in which his girlfriend and Goyal were studying. Since Goyal wanted to befriend her, Navin hatched a conspiracy to teach him a lesion,” said Chinmoy Biswal, additional DCP, south Delhi. To execute the murder, Navin took help of his friend Aakash, who is also studying in the same school.

As per the plan, Navin asked Aakash to invite Goyal for a samosa party at a roadside eatery on Sunday evening. When Goyal agreed, the three of them took a bike ride till Chattarpur. Upon reaching there, Navin and Aakash took the victim to a farmhouse and strangulated him.

“Out of fear, the accused took away his mobile, purse and identity card and hid his body in a forest. Since Goyal’s phone was ringing continuously, Navin misled his parents by demanding Rs 20 lakh to make an impression of abduction committed by professional criminals,” Biswal said. The accused had planned to burn Goyal’s body the next day to make his disappearance a mystery. Goyal’s family contacted police soon after the ransom demand, who tracked his phone and recovered the victim’s scooty. Navin and Aakash were nabbed soon after.
