Nokia 2 with 2-day battery life and price around Rs 7,000 launched

New Delhi: HMD Global on Tuesday announced the launch of its first entry-level Android smartphone, the Nokia 2. Priced at Rs 99 euros, the Nokia 2’s is aimed at users who demand long battery life from their smartphones. The highlights of the Nokia 2 include the 4100mAh battery that offers up to 2 days of life and premium design, the company said.

It is a low-end smartphone that will compete against the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 4A and Moto C, being positioned below the Nokia 3. It will become available for sale mid-November, the company said.

At 99 Euros (global average retail price) which roughly translates to Rs 7,000, the Nokia 2 slots in below the Nokia 3 in Nokia’s Android smartphone line-up and acts as an entry point into the iconic brand’s all-new Android world.

According to Juho Sarvikas, HMD global chief product manager, the four things people expect of a cheap smartphone are – great battery, a good display, 4G and good cameras. And the company claims the Nokia 2 delivers on all these fronts.

Unveiled at a metro station in Delhi – in amongst the masses so as to speak – Nokia’s cheapest Android smartphone packs quite a punch for its price. There is a massive 4,100mAh battery on board, 8GB of internal storage expandable via a micro SD card, a gigabyte of RAM and 4G VoLTE support.

There is a 5-inch 720p HD display on board with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top for protection against nicks and scratches.

The Snapdragon 212 processor on board is a little disappointing though. However, just like the rest of Nokia’s Android line-up, the Nokia 2 also runs on stock build of Android Nougat devoid of any extraneous overlays, bloat or skins – which should help performance quite a bit.
