Every possible step to increase polling percentage in Lok Sabha elections

Bhopal: Every possible step is being taken to increase polling percentage in Madhya Pradesh in Lok Sabha elections on the lines of last Vidhan Sabha elections. Polling percentage in Lok Sabha elections 2009 was 51.17 which rose to 72.52 in Vidhan Sabha election in December 2013.

Conducted on the instructions of Election Commission under the guidance of Chief Electoral Officer Shri Jaideep Govind, SVEEP activities had a special role in increasing polling percentage. After successful conduct of Vidhan Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh, office of the Chief Electoral Officer is all set for record polling in Lok Sabha elections.

Outlines of an awareness campaign have been chalked out to convey message for voting to electorates through railways, BSNL, Education Department etc. under SVEEP plan. These departments will provide round-the-clock service on their own cost to motivate voters to cast their votes. Publicity through various mediums will be made at railway stations and in trains. Similarly, BSNL will motivate its consumers through ring tones. Higher Education Department is launching a public awareness campaign through students and parties.

Besides, awareness campaign through street plays, regional singers’ troupes etc. is being undertaken in rural areas. This time, SVEEP plan envisages to increase polling percentage upto 90 percent.

Services of door-to-door milk delivery organisation Dairy Federation are also being availed for voter awareness. Slogans to motivate voters will be inscribed on its milk packets. The seal to be put on milk packets will read as “Voting is your right. Do exercise it.”
