Govt Will Consult All Parties on Nuke Liability Bill: Pranab

Amid strong criticism over the nuclear liability Bill by opposition, the government has said that it will hold consultation with all political outfits before the draft legislation is brought in Parliament, reported PTI.

“…We will consult all political parties concerned because it requires Parliamentary approval,” Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee was quoted as saying.

He made the remarks in response to a query about the government’s next step on the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damages Bill 2010.

“The Bill has to be introduced and thereafter due Parliamentary procedure will take place,” the minister was quoted as saying.

It may be mentioned that due to strong objections from the opposition, government postponed the tabling of the bill, which is a key step the operationalisation of Indo-US nuclear deal.

The legislation provides for compensation in the event of a mishap involving civil nuclear plants.
