Five Women Devotee Killed, Many Others Injured in Stampede in Sirsa

In a stampede inside the premises of religious sect Dera Sacha Sauda in Sirsa, at least five women devotees have been killed and many others injured, reported PTI.

Officials said that the stampede was triggered by the rumours about the presence of a snake, report said.

Sirsa Deputy Commissioner Yudhvir Singh said that the incident occurred yesterday night during a function to commemorate the foundation day of the sect, said report.

He said that preliminary reports indicated that at the function, someone spread a rumour about the presence of a snake that led to devotees running helter-skelter leading to the stampede, report said.

He said that five women devotees were killed in stampeded and their identity was yet not established, said report.

The official did not specify the number of injured and said investigations were in progress, report said.
