In what could be seen as a sign of increased militancy in the state, two defence personnel were killed in a late night encounter in a district of Jammu, reported NDTV.
The attack came following repeated bids from Pakistani side of international border to infiltrate into Indian territory.
According to report, jawans were killed when militants opened fire at an Army search party after they were surrounded in Thandar area near Kishtwar town.
The area has been cordoned off and search operations are underway, said report.
Suspected militants were believed to be hiding in a cave in Thandar area. The Army had specific intelligence inputs before search operations were launched and the encounter started.
