Expressing concern over a recent spurt in infiltration levels in Jammu and Kashmir, Defence minister AK Antony on Saturday noted the substantial climbdown in militant activity in the state.
“Militancy in Jammu and Kashmir has come down substantially but in the last one month, a new trend in infiltration and sizeable increase is there which is a matter of concern,” said Antony, while speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a ceremony marking the opening of the Armed Forces Tribunal in New Delhi.
He said that the recent spurt in infiltration bids, which normally peak around the onset of winter, was substantial.
While underlining that security forces foiled several attempts by militants to sneak into the country from across the Line of Control. Antony maintained that the country could not be complacent and let its guard down.
Congratulating security forces for successful conduct of the Amarnath Yatra and noted that militants were upset over the peaceful conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
