Couple Claims Son’s Death due to Security Curbs during PM’s Kanpur Visit

A child, who was in dire need of medical intervention, could not reach to hospital due to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s security during his recent Kanpur visit and consequently died, said media reports.

The child’s mother has now written to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi about the incident asking her to make sure that these incidents don’t recur, reports said.

Usha Sharma and her husband Tasdud Hussain allege that security, which had barricaded all major roads for Singh’s visit to IIT on July, had stopped them from taking their only child, eight-year-old Aman, who sustained serious head injuries after falling from a height at their home, to hospital, said reports.

The couple claim that though they requested security persons to allow them to commute through Coca-Cola crossing which had been barricaded to facilitate the PM’s security cover, they were asked to take a longer route to the nearest hospital, reports said.

Aman, a student of Class II, bled to death on his way to the hospital.

In her letter to Gandhi, written on July 6, Sharma has requested the UPA Chairperson to make sure that in future security forces do not stop the injured from being taken to hospitals, said reports.

She has also sought a compensation of Rs 10 lakh.

Talking to reporters, Additional District Magistrate Shailendra Kumar Singh said that some roads had been closed on July 3 in view of the Prime Minister’s visit to IIT in the city, reports said.

He said that a probe has been ordered into the incident, said reports.
