Madhya Pradesh constructs maximum roads

Bhopal: Maximum roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana have been constructed in Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh is the only state which has been given maximum funds under the scheme. From beginning of the scheme till date, sanction was granted to construct 69 thousand 643 km long 16 thousand 346 roads in the state including roads in naxalite-affected district and roads sanctioned under Integrated Action Plan (IAP). Of these, construction of 13 thousand 618 roads measuring 61 thousand 271 kms have been completed. Under the scheme, the Centre had sanctioned Rs. 19 thousand 143 crore till date of which Rs. 15 thousand 368 crore has been spent.

For road construction under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Madhya Pradesh received assistance worth Rs. 13 thousand 488 crore for 57 thousand 593 km long roads and Rs. 3478 crore for 12 thousand 49 km long 2858 roads from Asian Development Bank (ADB) so far. Till last month, construction of 51 thousand 391 km long 11 thousand 583 roads costing Rs. 12 thousand 655 crore has been completed in the state under this Yojana. Similarly, with the help of Asian Development Bank, 2035 roads measuring 9880 kms were constructed at a cost of Rs. 2583 crore. Madhya Pradesh will get as grant the amount repaid to Asian Development Bank by Government of India under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.

Of the 16 thousand 20 roads sanctioned in the state under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, 13 thousand 618 roads have been completed. These roads are providing facility of all-weather transport to 5836 villages of 1000 or more population and 6668 villages with 500 and 250 population. During year 2011-12 under IAP, Central Government had sanctioned Rs. 532.82 crore for constructing 458 roads measuring 1665.79 crore in 8 districts. This scheme will benefit 603 habitats.

Special attention is also being paid on quality of construction under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. For this, 3 tier monitoring arrangements have been made under which along with departmental inspectors, state quality monitors and national quality monitors have also been appointed. They inspect all road construction works from time to time. Along with departmental staff, supervision and quality control consultants have also been appointed to ensure quality in works.
