Cong Justifies Chavan, Party Workers in Amitabh Controversy

Following a controversy over presence of Hindi film actor Amitabh Bachchan in an inaugural function, the Congress has sought to back Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan, reported PTI.

Also, Congress justified the anger of party of workers of its state unit over the invitation to the actor for the function, saying that they are furious as Bachchan has identified himself with the Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, report said.

“The party is aware of whatever has happened there. Chief minister of Maharashtra has already given a clarification. Party workers are angry because Amitabh Bachchan has identified himself with Narendra Modi,” AICC general secretary Janardan Dwivedi was quoted as saying while talking to reporters in New Delhi.

Dwivedi’s remarks came following resentment among a section of Mumbai Congress over invite to Bachchan to function in which chief minister Ashok Chavan inaugurated the sea link yesterday.

Even Chavan indicated his unhappiness  over Bachchan’s presence and exclusion of some party workers in the function which was organized by the PWD ministry led by Congress ally NCP, which, however, justified Bachchan’s presence.

A section of Congress is said to be unhappy since Bachchan is the brand ambassador of BJP-ruled Gujarat and his relationship with the Gandhi family has been strained.
