Media should keep national interest and public service in view: Governor

Bhopal: Governor Shri Ram Naresh Yadav has said that everyone has right to expression in democracy. Media’s responsibility increased under such circumstance. Media should work keeping in view national interest and pubic service. It should assist in upliftment of the country and state, create awareness and motivate people to contribute to the construction of the country and society. Shri Yadav was addressing launch ceremony of India News Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh TV channel here today. At the ceremony, Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that media’s news should also carry a sense of responsibility and social concerns.

Urban Administration & Development Minister Shri Babulal Gaur, Home Minister Shri Umashankar Gupta, former minister Shri Chandrakumar Bhanot and large number of distinguished personalities and representatives of media were present on the occasion.

Governor Shri Yadav said that media should guide society. He said that media should be free from bias, independent, impartial and responsible. He said that media is mirror to society. It has more responsibility than others in social upliftment. It has also important role in building nation and society. Media has witnessed much expansion under prevailing situation. With this, new challenges have also cropped up before it. Media should also keep in view as to what message it has to give for harmony and unity of society. He said that media’s role between leaders and people is important.

Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that media should explore society’s power. Society comprises both good and bad people. News displayed in media fills one with a feeling of disappointment. There is need to consider as to what extend misdeeds should be highlighted in media. Such a reign of mistrust should not take place in society, which might end people’s trust. Therefore, it is necessary that good things happening in society should also be given coverage. Dissemination of information is a major responsibility in this era of information boom. There is need to work with a sense of responsibility that country and state do not suffer any major damage as a result of dissemination of news.

He said that media should also get connected with social campaigns like Beti Bachao Abhiyan. Declining number of girls is a major social concern. Social balance will be disturbed and tensions will mount if this trend is not stemmed. Congratulating team of India News, he said that the channel is in able hands and its future is bright. He said that the channel’s team should become partner in development of Madhya Pradesh by listening to voice of conscience.

Expressing pleasure over singing of Madhya Pradesh Gaan at the launch of Indian News channel, Chief Minister Shri Chouhan extended hearty greetings to the organisers. He also lauded the channel’s advertisement policy. Shri Chouhan said that repeated elections is a major problem. Election funding is a major cause of corruption. Giving three main suggestions about electoral reforms, he said that Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections should be held simultaneously. Their term will be full five years and election expenses should be borne by the Election Commission. He said that he will continue efforts towards electoral reforms.

Public Relations and Culture Minister Shri Laxmikant Sharma expressed happiness over launch of the channel and congratulated its team. Extending congratulations, former Union Minister Shri Suresh Pachouri said it is very necessary as to how and when a new is broken. State Congress president Shri Kantilal Bhuria wished the channel to scale new heights of progress. State BJP president Shri Prabhat Jha said that media is necessity of democracy. Media is alert sentinel of society like army is sentinel of borders. Extending greetings to the channel, he said that democracy will be strengthened only when media remains close to truth and away from falsehood.
