Centre Should Consult States in Formulation of Schemes: TN Govt

The Tamil Nadu government has asked the Centre to consult state governments while formulating schemes and also let them adapt plans as per their needs, reported PTI.

“We have been consistently urging the Union Government to give their due rights to the State government, which are serving the people by being closer to them and to refrain from the tendency of enacting laws that take away the powers from the State governments,” Finance Minister K Anbazhagan was quoted as saying in his budget speech.

Also, the minister expressed his opposition to the move for forming a National Commission for Higher Education, said report.

Though Anbazhagan hailed the hike in share of States in the shareable net tax revenue of the Centre, he regretted that the inter-se share of Tamil Nadu in the total devolution had been reduced from 5.3 per cent to 4.9 per cent, report said.

He said that the shares of southern States, which had successfully implemented welfare schemes of the Centre was reduced, report said.

“It is a punishment for performance,” Anbazhagan was quoted as saying.
