Basu’s Vital Organs Have Failed: Docs

Health condition of veteran CPM leader and former West Bengal chief minister is very-very critical with his all vital organs having failed, an attending doctor was quoted as saying by PTI.

“His heart is putting up a fight. Other than that his other organs are not functioning. His condition is extremely critical,” Dr T S Kukreja, Executive Vice-President of AMRI Hospital where the 95-year-old Basu is admitted, was quoted as saying.

“His cardiac condition is poor, his lungs are functioning partially and his kidneys are not functioning and he is on dialysis,” Kukreja said.

Report said that DN Agrawal, Hospital Executive Director, told media persons that the former West Bengal chief minister was on full ventilatory support with sudden drop in is blood pressure last night.

“But it was managed with a high dose of blood pressure stabilising drug, Inotropes,” he was quoted as saying.

He said that his urine output dropped further and Basu had been put on Slow Low Efficiency Daily Dialysis (SLEDD) which takes eight hours, said report.

Explaining the dialysis process, Agarwal said, when a patient is unable to withstand normal dialysis, SLEDD is resorted to. “The pressure on a patient is less under SLEDD.”
