The gunfight started at nearly 5.30 am in the morning when police and Army launched a joint operation on a tip-off that two militants were hiding in a house in Sopore, said report.

When Army Captain headed a party of the Special Forces to get closer to the house, militants responded by throwing grenades at them, said report.

The jawan was killed, several troops were injured and the Captain was overpowered by militants and whisked away inside the house, report said.

When a fellow officer called on the Captain’s phone to offer safe passage for his release, the militants was quoted as saying: “We are ready to get killed. We’ve killed your Captain.”

Moreover, they refused to release the Captain’s body, said report.
