Allow Grant of Permanent Commission to Women in Defence Services: HC to Govt

The Delhi High Court has instructed the Centre to allow grant of permanent commission to women serving in the defence services, reported PTI.

Hearing a batch of pleas filed by serving and retired lady officers, a bench led by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul gave its ruling in their favour, asking the government to give all consequential benefit to them, report said.

Women had demanded grant of permanent commission to them like their male counterparts in the armed forces and the court had reserved its verdict on their petitions on December 14.

Currently, women are inducted in the Army as officers under the Short Service Commission for a maximum period of 14 years whereas their male counterparts are eligible to receive permanent commission after five years.
