Tornadoes wreck homes and ground flights in Texas

TEXAS: The tornado breaks havoc in Texas. Flights were cancelled at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport and passengers were moved away from glass windows for their safety. At lunchtime the tornado just touched down south of Dallas, and moved east as another appeared in Mansfield. No immediate reports of injuries were there. TV footage showed images of houses with roofs and second storey’s missing while some of the properties were almost completely blown away.

Dallas County spokeswoman Maria Arita told the Associated Press, “Obviously we’re going to have a lot of assessments to make when this is done”.

At least two “large and extremely dangerous” tornadoes were reported by The National Weather Service. The area would remain on tornado watch until 20:00 local time on Tuesday. A local television station captured the vehicles flying through the air when one of the tornados touched down in a parking lot full of articulated Lorries while some of the cargo containers attached to the Lorries were flattened. Damage was reported in nearby Kennedale, Arlington and Lancaster.

Jonathan Cook, a resident of a nearby town, told CNN, “All of a sudden, the rain and hail ceased”. “That’s when we saw the tornadoes touch down.” Kennedale city spokeswoman said that so far moderate damage had been reported on 40 to 50 homes as well as some businesses. Hundreds of flights at Dallas-Fort worth International were cancelled by American Airlines .About 110 aircraft were damaged from hail.
